McGraw-Hill AccessScience Encyclopedia of Science & Technology Online features fully searchable content from McGraw-Hill's Encyclopedia of Science & Technology, 10th Edition. It's easier than ever to find what you're looking for and put it to use quickly.

Databases

Searchasaurus is an exciting and easy way for young researchers to experience online searching. It is an animated interface with a dinosaur theme that encourages students to enhance and develop basic search methodologies. Students will be riveted by the colorful, animated interface, complete with erupting volcanoes and a dinosaur guide, as they gather information on a wide range of topics. Searchasaurus offers Lexile limiters (reading level), making it easy for students to read and research only appropriately challenging materials.

Kids Search is a search interface designed specifically for elementary/middle school students according to their needs and search abilities. It makes it easier for students to look for their subjects of interest by automatically searching across all applicable databases simultaneously. Important features and functionality of Kids Search include a completely new, visually appealing look and feel; the ability to search by topic, subtopic, or keywords; simultaneous searching across all subscribed databases; the ability to sort results by relevance, as well as by date; the option of filtering search results by source type; and the ability to add search results, images, or persistent links to searches to the Folder.
Practice Assessment/Strengthening Skills

Louisiana Pass "allows students to practice skills that are similar to those on the LEAP 21 and GEE 21 and provides instruction to help strengthen those skills. PASS includes multiple-choice, short-answer, and essay questions."

Home Access to Online Databases

LA Dept. of Education has funded subscriptions to several databases. Students, teachers and parents can gain access from their home computers. However, a username and password are required. Parents, if you and your child would like to have access to these sites, please request the passwords from the school librarian.
